DECEMBER 2012- THE NIGHT MINISTRY

The Night Ministry connects with Chicago's vulnerable youth and adults, providing basic supplies, self-care supplies, free healthcare, housing and supportive services or youth, referrals to other resources, and more. They offer services at the moment of need on the street, a mobile health bus, and our shelter and supportive services programs for homeless youth.

 

NOVEMBER 2012- MEALS ON WHEELS

Meals on Wheels Chicago provides funding to programs that support home-bound senior citizens and people with disabilities, allowing them to continue to live independently in their own homes, with dignity and self-respect.

 

OCTOBER 2012- FOOD ANIMAL CONCERNS TRUST (FACT)

The vision of Food Animal Concerns Trust (FACT) is that one day all farms will be humane and healthy places to raise food animals. The mission of Food Animal Concerns Trust (FACT) is to improve the welfare of food producing animals. FACT seeks to broaden opportunities for humane farmers, and address the public health problems that come from the production of meat, milk, and eggs.

 

SEPTEMBER 2012- CHILDREN’S ONCOLOGY SERVICES, INC. (COSI)

Children's Oncology Services, Inc. (COSI) believes that a diagnosis of cancer should not prevent a child from experiencing the simple joys of childhood. Founded in 1978 at Children’s Memorial Hospital in Chicago, COSI continues to be volunteer-driven, relying on more than 350 volunteers to plan and operate a wide portfolio of camping, recreational and educational programs.  COSI is a leader in providing empowering and fun experiences to young people facing cancer.

Nearly 17 million - almost one in four - children in America go to bed hungry.  Share Our Strength and its network of community groups, activists and food programs, works to surround children facing hunger with nutritious food where they live, learn and play.

Open Books is a nonprofit social venture that operates an extraordinary bookstore, provides community programs, and mobilizes passionate volunteers to promote literacy in Chicago and beyond.

 

APRIL 2012- NAMASTE CHARTER SCHOOL

Namaste Charter School is committed to the physical, social and academic well being of its students, staff and parents. The school incorporates health, nutrition and athletics into its rigorous curriculum, created to ensure literacy, numeracy and a lifelong love of learning and believes that to achieve in school, students must be healthy, active and engaged in physical activity regularly.

 

MARCH 2012- ALZHEIMER’S ASSOCIATION IN CHICAGO

The Alzheimer's Association is the leading, global voluntary health organization in Alzheimer's care and support, and the largest private, nonprofit funder of Alzheimer's research. The goal of the organization is to advance research, enhance care and support for those affected with the disease and reduce the risk of dementia through the promotion of brain health.

 

FEBRUARY 2012- HEARTLAND ALLIANCE’S NEON STREET TRANSITIONAL LIVING PROGRAM

The Heartland Alliance advances human rights and responds directly to the needs of endangered populations— particularly the poor, the isolated, and the displaced. The Transitional Living Program (TLP) is targeted towards getting youth employment and begins accumulating savings while living in a family-like dormitory environment. TLP is a 10-bed facility available for homeless youth ages 18-21. The youth involved in the program receive services such as life skills, job development and counseling.

 

JANUARY 2012- CHILDREN’S MEMORIAL HOSPITAL

The Children’s Memorial Hospital is dedicated to the health and well being of all children. As a charitable organization, the hospital serves children and their families to the best of our abilities and the limits of our resources. It is also the pediatric teaching facility of Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine Pediatric that specializes in healthcare delivery, research of pediatric diseases, education and advocacy for children.

 

DECEMBER 2011 - CENTER ON HALSTED

Since 2007, Center on Halsted has been the most comprehensive lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered community center in the Midwest. The Center offers networks and programming including support groups for youth and seniors, mental health services, an info line for LGBT individuals and a hotline for HIV and STD concerns, prevention, treatment and advocacy related to domestic violence.

 

NOVEMBER 2011 - LAKEVIEW PANTRY

Lakeview Pantry provides on-site food distribution, a home delivery service for the homebound, distribute free clothing and have a case management program in order to help clients connect with other services they may need to address the causes of food insecurity. Lakeview Pantry is one of the few pantries in the city to offer food distribution to homeless people.

 

OCTOBER 2011 - ADVOCATE ILLINOIS MASONIC MEDICAL CENTER

Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center is a 408-bed hospital offering comprehensive inpatient services including medical, surgical, pediatric, obstetrics as well as outpatient services. The Medical Center has more than 800 physicians who specialize in several areas including one of the city's most advanced cardiac program and the city’s largest and most experienced certified nurse midwifery program.

JULY 2011 - LEUKEMIA AND LYMPHOMA SOCIETY- TEAM IN TRAINING

The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS) is the world’s largest voluntary health organization that works to find a cure for leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their families. Since 1949, LLS has invested more than $680 million in research. Their Team in Training is a unique charity sports training program in which more than 420,000 people of all fitness levels have trained with TNT and achieved their best at marathons, half marathons, triathlons, and 100-mile century bike rides. TNT helps train participants of Chicago’s Half Marathon and 5K, Bank of America Chicago Marathon, Hot Chocolate 15K/ 5K and the Chicago Triathalon.

MAY 2011 - WHITNEY M. YOUNG MAGNET HIGH SCHOOL'S ECO CLUB

The Whitney M. Young Magnet High School aims to create a positive, diverse, challenging and friendly learning environment. Members of this club work on ecology-based projects to better the community and school.  One of their goals is to construct an aquaponics system and enter it in the Lexus Eco-Challenge.

 

APRIL 2011 - CAREERS THROUGH CULINARY ARTS PROGRAM (C-CAP)

Careers through Culinary Arts Program is a national nonprofit whose goal is to provide career opportunities in the foodservice industry to underserved youth. C-CAP links culinary professionals and public high school students through programs such as teacher training, scholarships, cooking competitions, job training and career advising.

 

MARCH 2011 - JESSE BROWN VA MEDICAL CENTER

Jesse Brown VAMC provides care to approximately 58,000 enrolled veterans who reside in the City of Chicago and Cook County, Illinois, and in four counties in northwestern Indiana. The medical center’s mission is to be a provider of choice for veterans in the Chicago area. Their outreach campaign informs veterans about the health care benefits they have earned through their service to our country and the specific services available to them at Jesse Brown VAMC.

 

FEBRUARY 2011 - URBAN GATEWAYS

Urban Gateways is one of the largest and most comprehensive arts education organizations in the country that provides programming in and out of schools to more than 100,000 children in metropolitan Chicago every year.  Urban Gateways offers custom-designed programming in the literary, performing, media and visual arts that range from one-time exposure opportunities to full immersion.

 

JANUARY 2011 - GREATER CHICAGO FOOD DEPOSITORY

The Greater Chicago Food Depository, Chicago’s food bank, is a nonprofit food distribution and training center providing food for hungry people while striving to end hunger in our community. The Food Depository distributes donated and purchased food through a network of 650 pantries, soup kitchens and shelters to 678,000 adults and children in Cook County every year. Last year, the Food Depository distributed 66 million pounds of food, which is the equivalent of 135,000 meals every day.

 

DECEMBER 2010 - TOYS FOR TOTS

The primary goal of Toys for Tots is to deliver, through a new toy at Christmas, a message of hope to less fortunate youngsters that will assist them in becoming responsible, productive, patriotic citizens.The objectives of Toys for Tots are to help less fortunate children throughout the United States experience the joy of Christmas; to play an active role in the development of one of our nation’s most valuable resources – our children; to unite all members of local communities in a common cause for three months each year during the annual toy collection and distribution campaign; and to contribute to better communities in the future.

 

NOVEMBER 2010 - CHICAGO HEARING SOCIETY

Chicago Hearing Society’s mission is to empower deaf, hard of hearing and hearing people to communicate with each other, thereby lessening the isolation which separates them.  Through youth programs, community outreach and a full line of products and services, Chicago Hearing Society is central to Chicago's hearing impaired community.

 

OCTOBER 2010 - CHICAGO GATEWAY GREEN

Chicago Gateway Green leads urban beautification and greening projects that make a positive environmental and aesthetic impact on Chicago. Ultimately their work leads to improved quality of life through healthier living. Their sustainable landscaping, litter removal and native plantings on hundreds of acres along transportation corridors help improve air quality, protect our water, and restore the natural beauty of Chicago — making us feel good about our surroundings and breathe a little easier, too.

AUGUST 26 TO 29 - SCOTT'S MENU

DMK is partnering with Crispin Cider Company to support Scott, a 20-year old diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia earlier this year.  From Thursday to Sunday, DMK will feature a menu of items prepared with various Crispin products.  Each item sold will benefit A Special Wish Foundation and Scott's wish to attend a Bulls or Blackhawks game in a suite with family and friends.  Click here to view the menu.

One of the first wish-granting organizations in the United Stated, A Special Wish is an organization dedicated to granting wishes of children from birth to age 21 in the Chicagoland area with life threatening conditions.

MAY + JUNE 2010 - MAKE A WISH FOUNDATION

DMK sponsored a very specal 15-year-old Chicago area resident named Vanessa.  In December, 2008, Vanessa was diagnosed with acute lymphocytic leukemia (or, ALL).  When asked to dream BIG, Vanessa wished for a trip to Italy, where she can see all the sites with her mom, dad and older brother. DMK proudly gave $5,000 to help fulfill her beautiful wish.  We love you Vanessa!

The Inspiration Corporation and its affiliates helps homeless and low-income individuals to succeed in the workplace and gain skills to increase self-sufficiency.  Career services include employment preparation training, food service training, tuition subsidies, job placement and more.

On January 12, a series of earthquakes with magnitudes ranging from 6.5 to 7.3 devastated Haiti.  We're so proud to have done our small part for our neighbors to the south.
